Five minutes with… Gemma Alaway

Gemma Alaway – Gemma has been a BJC member since October 2013. She is a qualified solicitor and now works as a Senior Rights and Permissions Adviser, heading up the Rights & Permissions team at IOP Publishing. Gemma advises on any copyright issues relating to the publication of IOP’s journals & ebooks, including rights clearance and the licensing of content to third parties.

Gemma joined BJC because she was new to Bristol and looking to meet like-minded people. Gemma’s favourite BJC event is the annual marquee at the balloon fiesta, as it has the most spectacular view of the nightglow. She has since organised the BJC’s hospitality marquee for the past two years. One of her funniest memories is transporting all the drinks and canapes, via golf buggy, through the fair at the fiesta.

Gemma would recommend all members to get involved, the more you volunteer to help with BJC the more you get out of it. Having previously been Chair of Marketing & PR, it gave Gemma a real appreciation for everything the CofM do for the membership.
