The Bristol Junior Chamber has welcomed the appointment of its former member Darren Jones as the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, following his re-election as MP for Bristol North West in the General Election.
Born and raised in Bristol, Darren joined the BJC prior to his election to Parliament whilst working as a solicitor for Bond Dickinson.
Joining the Chamber’s Council of Management during the 2013-14 year as Chair of Policy and Current Affairs, Darren brought the Chamber to the fore on a range of pivotal local policy matters that saw him working directly with Bristol City Council and even alongside young leaders from across the country on an international relations initiative with their counterparts in China.
In taking on the new ministerial role, Darren becomes the second most senior figure within the Treasury after the Chancellor of the Exchequer, with responsibility for public expenditure, including spending reviews.
We at the BJC want to congratulate Darren on his appointment and wish him the very best of luck for the role!
