Bristol Businesses question Mayoral candidates

  • BJC members and Bristol business leaders attended a dedicated mayoral hustings at Ashton Gate on Thursday 14th April.

Around 200 business professionals came to hear the candidates discuss their vision for Bristol. The event was chaired by BBC Points West correspondent Dave Harvey.

Kay Barnard (Liberal Democrat), Tony Dyer (Green), George Ferguson (Independent), Charles Lucas (Conservative), Marvin Rees (Labour), Paul Saville (Independent), Christine Townsend (Independent) and Paul Turner (UKIP), were all in attendance. 

Topics discussed included housing levels in Bristol, skills and education, transport issues and the devolution deal.

James Durie, Chief Executive of Bristol Chamber of Commerce & Initiative at Business West, said: “The business hustings last night were a great success. It’s clear that all the candidates have ambitious plans for Bristol and it was a great opportunity to hear how they plan to drive our city forward. We’d like to thank all of the candidates who attended for coming, and the audience who made the event such a lively debate.”
