I’ve been a member for just over a year.
I was introduced to the BJC through some colleagues who were existing members, both of whom had been involved in the Council of Management. Having come to Thrings from the public sector, I was keen to meet some new people and after attending the Annual Dinner, was convinced very easily to sign up.
I’m an avid photographer and enjoy shooting anything from nature and landscapes to sport. I’m often found at the weekend in a coaching boat following one of Bristol’s many rowing clubs (my other passion) to really bring out the beauty of the sport. When I don’t have a camera in hand, I enjoy spending time with friends and family and can often be found enjoying a good book or film.
I really enjoy the Spring Drinks. As the first event on the calendar, it is a great way for new members to meet in an interesting venue and gives potential members a chance to engage with the chamber in an informal way to find out why it’s worth joining.
Bristol is an incredible city with so much going on but if I had to pick one thing, it would without a doubt be the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta – an event the BJC co-founded!
Being a part of an event so central to the city’s identity is amazing and one I thoroughly enjoy photographing each year. Through my past life as a journalist, I’ve even had the pleasure of being able to fly in the balloons on a number of occasions which is always such a special experience.
I’ve performed on the famous stage of the Bristol Old Vic – a theatre with an illustrious list of alumni including Olivia Coleman, Patrick Stewart, Gene Wilder and Theo James. I might have been three years old and it was in the Teddy Bears Picnic but it still counts!
