Under a year!
I first heard more about the BJC at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, got speaking to a few members, attended my first event where everyone was incredibly welcoming, and the rest is history…
I joined the Council of Management as the BJC just has such deep-rooted connections to the city, and has helped make it was it is today, and I wanted to be a part of that.
I love to cook; apart from (mostly) finding it relaxing, I love being able to share the end product with people and get to share the experience with them, unsurprisingly I always make too much. One of my favourite things to do whilst abroad is to try new foods as apart from being delicious, I feel that cuisine often gives you such an insight into a places’ culture.
I love to read, most recently it’s been Russian classical literature (Dostoevsky) and fantasy (Sanderson). History is also an interest of mine, specifically the late Roman Republican period.
Being a member for under a year I’m yet to see every event that the BJC has to offer, but the events I have attended so far have been fantastic (and a big part in why I put myself forward for this position)! The Annual Dinner is the current highlight for me, but I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store.
As cliché as it is, the people. Having been here for 10+ years now Bristol is my adopted home, but I find that everywhere you go there are people who genuinely care about the city, the region, and each other.
…I also love the accent
I was accidentally in a comedy production of “Pride and Prejudice” after sitting in the front row and maintaining eye contact with Mr Collins… I played Charlotte, and end up having the 5th most lines in the show.
