September’s monthly meeting took place on Tuesday 5th at the PWC Lounge, 2 Glass Wharf.
This meeting was a Social Economy Evening, organised by Benjamin Pean (our Chair of Charity and Social Economy), and gave our BJC members the chance to decide how our annual Quartet charity money is donated and to make a socially positive impact. For those that don’t already know, the BJC has invested money with the Quartet Community Foundation; this money cannot be withdrawn, but the annual proceeds may be donated to a charity chosen by the BJC.
BJC members were given the opportunity to hear about several projects and select how they thought the Quartet money should be awarded. As a reminder, we heard from three fantastic charities:
- My Future, My Choice – about their ‘Build My Future’ project taking an interactive game into schools to teach children about being socially literate;
- Babassa – about how people like you and I can support young people from less advantaged backgrounds to achieve their goals; and
- School for Social Entrepreneurs – about providing courses and support for people setting up charities and social enterprises.

Following a close vote, the BJC membership decided to award the available income of over £800 to My Future, My Choice. You can read the full notes from our meeting here.
We will be doing some fund raising later in the BJC year to top up our Quartet fund so that the income generated can continue to increase in years to come.
