Monthly Roundup: August 2022

In the month that saw the return of Bristol International Balloon Fiesta and school’s out for the summer, we provided the goods with three of our calendar’s most anticipated events.

Our monthly meeting looked a little different this month, as it saw the return of the very popular Wine Tasting event at Avery’s Wine Merchants. Hosted by Frank we got to experience six wines; three white, three reds plus a cheese wine thrown in at the interval. We explored wines from varying regions from Spain to France, California to Germany, and even a wine from down the road in Devon (which was a firm favourite among those who attended the evening).

In between the tasting notes, we were able to network with friends, un-wine, welcome new members and accounce the brand new BJC Wine Club, which is being headed up by Oli Stavrakakis. Safe to say, we all had a really grape time at this event.

The next hotly anticipated event was, of course, the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta. After founding the event back in 1978, the BJC has been closely linked to this event (you can read here an interview with Don Cameron himself). The event has been unable to take place for the last three years, so being able to attend this years night glow with balloon-side seats had us all on cloud 9.

(We were also able to debut our new BJC gazebo – so keep an eye out for this at future events, you won’t be able to miss us!)

The final event this month was our Harbour Boat Cruise. The weather wasn’t on our side but we can always rely on our Members to embrace every opportunity!

Our two hour cruise left from City Centre Cascade Steps, cruising up and down the Harbourside with a stop at The Ostrich, where we had access to a private tipi that kept us sheltered from the rain.

We ended the cruise with a charity raffle supporting the Brightwell charity, who were our chosen charity for the Dragon Boat racing earlier in the year. Some of our Members were lucky enough to win some coveted prizes (namely a dermaplane facial which even had it’s own chant!).

Thanks to all the contributors who donated raffle prizes, and to all our members for rounding off our summer events series with high energy and lots of fun.
