Monthly roundup: September

In the month that we sadly said goodbye to HRM Queen Elizabeth II, we hosted a couple of events either side of the national mourning.

For our September Monthly Meeting we were delighted to be hosted by Burges Salmon in their newly refurbished office. Not only was the setting lovely, but we were also treated to a fascinating talk from our speaker, Sandra Gordon, Director of Bristol Women in Business Charter. In keeping with our President’s theme for this year, Sandra spoke to members about promoting Diversity and Inclusion across the Bristol Landscape. Sandra shared with us her background and how this has shaped her journey in diversity, how Bristol has played its part in driving diversity throughout history in the UK and also talked about the work that she has done with Bristol Women’s voice, the Commission on Race Equality. Sandra also told us about the work that she has done with setting up Black and Green Ambassadors, the RISE Awards and Mentoring programme. It was a brilliant evening – huge thanks to our sponsors Burgess Salmon.

The BJC’s annual golf day returned and took place at the Bristol Golf Club in Almondsbury. Our group of avid golfers were lucky to bask in some late summer sunshine, creating perfect conditions for low scoring/average round of golf.

Our team competition was extremely close, with a group comprising of members; Chris Gustavson, Joe Coghland and Ed Schwartz coming out on top by just one shot to win the coveted acclaim for another year.

All in all, a lovely day out and an incentive for some more golfing practice over the winter months!
